The Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center with Dustin Hudgeons

Dustin Hudgeons is a passionate volunteer with the Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center. The Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center is committed to providing people with disabilities the best equine-assisted therapy possible. Dustin Hudgeons notes that the staff at the Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center is extremely devoted to their clients and their work. The Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center is located in the South Plains of Texas at the Texas Tech University Equestrian Riding Center. The Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center is a teaching center that helps to prepare and train students in the many aspects of equine-assisted therapy. The center is also committed to providing information to increase the scientific knowledge surrounding the benefits of equine-assisted therapy.

Dustin Hudgeons notes that many people are able to benefit from equine-assisted therapy. The Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center has assisted people with the following disabilities: Cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Spina Bifida, Muscular dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, mental retardation, visual impairment, emotional disabilities, amputations, and learning disabilities. Dustin Hudgeons feels this to be a very impressive list. He is encouraged that so many people with disabilities can see improvements to the quality of their life from participating in equine-assisted therapy.

Equine-assisted therapy uses the movement of the horse to promote certain results in patients. Therapists who assist in this process are trained in areas such as occupational, physical, and speech therapies. A team of professionals evaluate each potential client and track their successes and improvements. Clients who have participated in equine-assisted therapy have seen benefits in their physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities. Dustin Hudgeons also notes that many of the people who participate in the program seem to show increased feelings of joy when they spend time with the horses. Dustin Hudgeons believes that the Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center is a valuable resource in his community.
